The Divine Liturgy is the central worship service of the
Orthodox Church and the very heart of our parish life.
It offers worshippers the proclamation of the Word of
God in prayer, hymns, Biblical readings and sermon,
culminating with the celebration of the Eucharist
(Holy Communion)..
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has 14
Anaphoras. Each is used on special occasions to mark
the observance of a particular holy day. Though the
Anaphoras differ in length and content, they
have common characteristics. They stress the Incarnation,
the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.
In principle the Divine Liturgy is conducted in Ge'ez,
the ancient classical and liturgical language of
Ethiopia; however, certain sections are conducted
in the more contemporary language of Amharic.
The parishioners, both men and women, may join
in the in the celebration by participating in the chants.
The celebration of the Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity
starts at 7am each Sunday. Additional celebrations
of the Divine Liturgy are also held on the 7th day
of the Ethiopian calendar (the day of the Holy Trinity),
as well as during various church feasts and holy days.
